MERRY CHRISTMAS, FLIST!

Had a very delicious Christmas Eve dinner with the family, now relaxing and watching a CSI:NY re-run on CBS - the one where Lindsay has her baby (I really do not want to watch A Christmas Story by myself.) I have, however, watched every holiday-themed television episode I could think of within the past week, I still have 30 Rock's "Ludachristmas" to watch, as I totally forgot about until a few minutes ago; I'll watch it online after my shower and before I go to sleep later tonight. Tomorrow morning will be pretty low-key: church (we always go Christmas morning because my father is a traditionalist and it's always a lot less crowded than the Christmas Eve masses), present opening with the family, and then over to aunt&uncle&cousins in Ann Arbor for the rest of the day, including Christmas dinner.

I'll probably be so busy with everything that I won't be able to make a update for a few days, so until then, have my Christmas mix from last year (I know, very late notice, but most of you still have a few more hours.) And enjoy your holidays, guys! I love you all.

(PS: [livejournal.com profile] sarken and [livejournal.com profile] yearinla, I got both of your cards this week; they're wonderful. Thank you so much!)
pretty_cynical: (OFFICE. blahsby.)
Long time, no update. Here goes.

School is going along fine. A little stressful, seeing as it's midterm time already - even though I've only been in classes for not quite two months. Luckily, they're not all in the same week and aren't all technically "midterms". I had my first exam in Social Problems last Monday (received an 82% - not as well as I thought I did - but it's the only first exam and I really didn't know what to expect, and I can make it up by doing really well on the other two), a take-home essay for Mass Media&American Politics due Tuesday (which if you saw my tweets Monday night, you know how hard it was for me to get through it), and the rest are all this week: I have a paper/presentation due Monday evening for Communications Research, and exams Thursday and Friday for World Politics and Concepts of Communication, respectively. So yeah, I'm going to be super-busy this weekend. If only the apartment wasn't so cold and there wasn't an America's Next Top Model marathon on Bravo right now, I'd totally be motivated to actually work.

In other real-life news, I NEED A JOB. BADLY. Though this is nothing new, I am running out of money way too fast for someone in my situation. I can't even pay off my credit card bill anymore, that's how bad it is. But sadly, I've been so busy with other school things that I haven't had a chance to check out Grand Valley's student employment office. Maybe after midterms are done and things quiet down academic-wise. If all else fails, I can see if the campus newspaper is still looking for people, even if it's going to be extra work.

TV has been hit or miss so far for me. Mad Men has been incredibly enjoyable as of late - it's really hitting its stride, and I'm anxious to see what's coming next. The Big Bang Theory remains hilarious as always, and I'm really warming up to Barney/Robin on How I Met Your Mother. CSI:NY and Criminal Minds have been really uninteresting this season so far, but I refuse to give either of them up because a) I'd have nothing to do on Wednesday nights, and b) I want to see them get better. I am, however, really excited that 30 Rock returns next Thursday - Liz Lemon&Co. have been absent from my life for far too long. I've also watched this weeks' The Office and House, but I think both of those need a re-watch and their own posts for extended thoughts and analysis. Those will come soon enough.

The NFL has also been in my life lately, which, yay. Great way to spend a Sunday, you guys. And my New York Giants are undefeated so far, which is awesome. Although I'm disappointed I don't get to watch as many of their games on TV as I'd like.
pretty_cynical: (MISC. no one does it like you.)
Tomorrow, I promise, I will talk about important things - mainly: COLLEGE. But until then, have this.

100 questions meme from Facebook. Yes, AGAIN. )
pretty_cynical: (THIRTYROCK. what the what.)
UM, THERE'S NOT GOING TO BE ANY IMMEDIATE POST-FINALE REACTIONS FROM ME UNTIL SOMETIME LATE TOMORROW, AS I AM STILL PROCESSING THINGS. LIKE, TONIGHT, ONE SHOW SORT OF BROKE MY HEART INTO A MILLION LITTLE PIECES AND THE OTHER FILLED MY HEART WITH JOY. I LITERALLY CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE TO SAY RIGHT NOW OTHER THAN "OMG" OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

AND NOW I AM TOO WIRED TO SLEEP, GOSH. TOO BAD MY RACHEL MADDOW PODCAST ISN'T AVAILABLE YET...
pretty_cynical: (OFFICE. in love with italian food.)
I've only been out of school for a week and a half, but it definitely seems like longer. I haven't really done anything major while on break: I make French toast, bum around on the internet, post reactions to the ridiculous things that occur on MSNBC via Twitter, watch Gibbs' daily White House press briefings, get entertained by other TV happenings in primetime, stay up until 2 AM and sleep until 10 the next morning. Rinse and repeat. It's this kind of behavior that makes me desperate to have a job so I'm actually doing something all day instead of being productive; I've applied to a bunch of places, and am now getting through the tail end of the customary week-long waiting period, since no one has attempted to contact me. I just need to go out and do something, before I bore myself to death.

Thoughts on last weeks' AMAZING TV. )

Oh, and I watched the White House Correspondents Dinner! Which just proves how much of a political dork I am, haha. But it was really enjoyable this time around (I haven't watched since Colbert was the entertainment in 2006), as I recognized a lot more celebrities as well as famous newspeople - I was all "!!!!!" every time they showed someone I knew, which was A LOT. And Obama's speech was absolutely fantastic - he was able to make light of himself and his staff without being too harsh, something I really admire in any person, not just a person of power. I really didn't like Wanda Sykes as the entertainment (I was personally gunning for Jon Stewart, or even Hugh Jackman, doing a medley of political songs with a well-choreographed dance routine), and after her bit was over I couldn't help but wonder if it's somebody's job at the WHCA to look over the entertainer's routine to make sure there isn't anything that could be construed as offensive, especially in Wanda Sykes' case. And then I got mad at MSNBC for bringing in two unknown correspondents who took the idea that the dinner is jokingly called "DC Prom" literally by wearing actual wrist corsages and taking each other as dates instead of getting one of their ACTUAL NBC CORRESPONDENTS on the phone and asking them what it's like at the dinner. Oh wells. There's always next year, I guess.

I feel like everyone but me has seen Star Trek already. Which is sad, because I'd really like to go see it, but no one will take/go with me. Same thing with Away We Go premiering in a few weeks. BLERG.
pretty_cynical: (MISC. college.)
I'M DONE!

REALLY. At least, I'm pretty sure I'm done with that college for good, barring any failing grades (which might actually happen, given all the English 102 drama I had this semester.) I can't find out my grades until tomorrow, which has made me all nervous and tense over the past few days. But I'm just going to put myself in the mindset that I did pass all my classes, because I'M DONE, AND I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. I'm so ready to start things at Grand Valley in August.

Honestly, I can't tell you how I survived this week. I made a to-do list everyday, and (mostly) stuck to it. I looked for something to get excited over each day, whether it was The Rachel Maddow Show every night, an ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC lunch at the on-campus restaurant with Dad on Tuesday, American Idol's Big Band week on Tuesday&Wednesday, President Obama's "100 Days" press conference (and by extension, THESE PHOTOS ZOMG) or 30 Rock on Thursday. I de-stressed the weekend before by watching the NFL Draft with the family. And even with that, I still was moved to tears after I sold my books back on Thursday afternoon because it was storming outside and the phrase "I made it through the rain" couldn't have been more fitting at that moment.

So what am I going to do in the interim five months between now and then? Take it easy, I guess. Finding a job is priority one, but I'm a little wary because a) Michigan's economy is in the toilet and b) I am not the ideal "job" candidate, as I still do not drive despite being 18 - though I did apply to a bunch of places, so I'm just going to wait that out. I plan on reading lots (and not just political stuff!), as well as writing - I have a new [livejournal.com profile] inrevelations assignment that I'm anxious to start, even though I don't know what I'm going to write yet. I want to go to the gym more, and go swimming - I have all kinds of time now! I'll keep obsessing over TV - from season finales that are coming up in the next few weeks (CSI:NY! Numb3rs! The Office! And House, for some reason!) to stuff I get excited about watching over the summer: In Plain Sight, which has become exponentially wonderful now that Joshua Malina has joined the cast; Eureka, for which I've been anxiously waiting months for - JULY 14TH CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH; and Mad Men, which won't return until August, but I'm just thankful we're getting a third season after how the last season ended. There are no plans for big vacations this summer (we're not going to Camp this year due to financial circumstances, and I highly doubt we're going to Omaha for the College World Series), but my cousin Claire (who goes to Notre Dame) is staying in South Bend for the summer and will be coming to visit! And I've made it my goal to go to a Tigers game this year (my wish is to go to one of the Red Sox/Tigers games in June), but I highly doubt that's going to happen. But I can always hope, right?
pretty_cynical: (AMERICANIDOL. you're not the one for me.)
You know what? Just once in these last few weeks I'm going to Community College, I'd like to be able to sleep in. I can't tell you the last time Mommy or Dad took me in at the regular time - 9 AM on Monday/Wednesday, 8 AM on Tuesday/Thursday; I've woken up at 6:45 AM everyday for the past few weeks in order to leave the house by 7:30 AM, and I've haven't gone to sleep before midnight AT ALL, a true rarity for me. So as a result I'm incredibly exhausted, but weary of taking a nap because I end up taking really long naps and have too much to do this weekend for that to happen. But we'll see how things go.

I don't have much to say re: American Idol & CSI:NY. )

I decided to give up on my American History term paper. It was really only acting as an extra credit assignment, and I'm doing a lot better in the class that I orginally thought I would before the semester began, so if I do well with the last few weeks of the semester, I should end the class with a 3.9, around a 90%, which is still good. I was just getting frustrated doing the assignment - I waited until a few days ago to start doing research, and I also had Film research to do, so I didn't have a lot of time to go digging and actually read sources, and the topic I was given seemed pretty easy, but actually required a lot of research. So now I'm just going to focus on my Film paper (which is probably going to be the death of me) and my final paper in English - which is going to be pretty tough because I can only have one internet source and I haven't been doing as well on the other two papers as I hoped I would. *crosses fingers that everything goes smoothly for the next three weeks*

Oh, and I hoped on the bandwagon and got a tumblr - though I'm not sure what I'll use it for!
pretty_cynical: (THIRTYROCK. what the what.)
School continues to frustrate me - I have a topic proposal for English due on Monday, despite the fact that I just turned in the final copy of my second paper on Wednesday and I have only a vague idea of what I want to do this paper on; I took a quiz in English when I was given no indication of the professor giving any type of quiz (or any other type of work beyond writing research papers, WHICH IS WHAT THE CLASS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT); and I'm pretty sure that I failed my Human Relations test, because I thought it was next week instead of yesterday.

However, I've aced my last two American History tests without taking a single note, making me believe I might have an A in the class; and I can register for Grand Valley classes in a little over a week. I'M SO CLOSE TO BEING FREE, YOU GUYS.

Another busy weekend; Monica's Confirmation is on Saturday, and my aunt&uncle&fivecousins (her godparents) from Omaha are coming into town, and we've got several get-togethers planned. I don't have school today, so I'm going to the mall in Ann Arbor with Grandma while Mommy does things at the hospital. And tonight I'm going to a church play that my cousins are in. So I'll have to find a little time somewhere to have to myself to do some homework. I got a few-days extension on my [livejournal.com profile] inrevelations story, which is both good and bad, because I haven't had time to go through and edit or type it up, but with this English paper I have to write, I might put it off until the last minute, which is never good. Hopefully I'll have enough time.
pretty_cynical: (NEWYORK. miss montana.)
I'm pretty much cured of the sickness I had towards the end of spring break, whatever it was - although now I've developed a cough, much worse than previous ones. It seems to be decreasing, which is always a good sign, but it's gone on a lot longer than it should. I'm debating whether or not to bring it up with Mommy and see if I can get it checked out, but I'm pretty sure she'll just tell me to let it run it's course because it seems to be getting better. No one has mentioned anything during the 590633246 times I coughed over the past few days, especially those times I was coughing so hard I could barely talked, so I'm guessing I shouldn't really worry about it. I just hope I'm better soon, because I haven't been in the best mood lately.

Weekly television round-up. )

I was hoping my Amazon order would be here earlier this afternoon, since I checked the website as often as I could to see where my stuff was at and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it arrived at the post office earlier this afternoon, when it wasn't expected until Monday. But it hadn't arrived at my house yet, which means that if it's in town, it'll be here tomorrow. At least, I hope so. If it doesn't get here until Monday I'm going to be pissed, because I'll spend the weekend thinking about that instead of all the school things I have to do this weekend.

Now if the Converses I ordered could get here in less than 11 days, I'd be golden.

-

I have not done any homework today, despite how eager I was yesterday to get working. I planned on doing my Anthropology exam today (just to get it out of the way) and typing up part of my English paper, but of course, none of that happened - I showered and listened to music all day while anxiously checking on the status of my Amazon order. So the revised plans now are to do the Anthropology exam and essays tomorrow and my English paper on Sunday and Monday morning, if I need it. I also have my Film review, but I'm going to save that for Monday/Tuesday and turn it in on Wednesday because a) I still have no idea what I'm going to do, thus the need for extra time, and b) I really don't want to watch the movie we'll be watching that day. I think I can still do well if I turn it in later - the professor hasn't penalized anyone for a late assignment yet, I probably won't be the only one turning it in late, and I have late coupons if absolutely necessary. So we'll see how it goes.
pretty_cynical: (ACT. perfection.)
1. I haven't updated in four days. But I have a good reason: SCHOOL! I had a shitload of writing assignments to do this week - my final copy of my first English paper, journals on Mystic River&cinematography/Traffic&editing/No Country for Old Men&sound (I'm recommending two of those three films, can you guess which ones?) and essays for American History. I had to skip one English class and both Human Relations classes this week to get it all done, which I'll probably pay dearly for. But everything's done and handed in, so there's not much I can do about it now.

2. Started spring break yesterday. It seems really weird having spring break in early March, when I've usually had a small break in mid-February and then a longer one around Easter. But I've come to the realization that "no school" means not having school and that I shouldn't complain about not getting as much time off as Monica and Graham - not having breaks means I'm done with school earlier! So I'm just going to spend this week relaxing, since I really need the break. I contemplated going somewhere, but I really don't have the money, so I'm planning on staying home, marathoning season 7 of The West Wing and working on my [livejournal.com profile] inrevelations assignment. Oh, and attempting to get through a mountain of English homework that the professor decided to load on me.

3. I thoroughly enjoyed Obama's fake State of the Union. It was just so positive and a nice contrast to the State of the Unions I've listened to in the past (which would be two, both Bush's. I didn't get really excited about politics until I started watching The West Wing sophomore year and the 2006 midterms.) Although I may of also had a ton of fun with it given that a) Dad and I made fun of how many times Nancy Pelosi stood up to applaud, b) Mommy asked "who's that?" when a politician she didn't know showed up on screen, which allowed me to show off my knowledge of who's who in the Obama administration, and c) Rahm Emanuel did a post-speech interview with Brian Williams on NBC (in which I had to contain my fangirlishness since my parents were still in the room.)

4. Speaking of the Obama administration, WHITE HOUSE INTERNSHIPS. I'm semi-seriously considering this as one of my internship options once I get to Grand Valley. I could totally apply for it now, since I fit all the requirements, but I think I'd have a better shot once I've had a little more college experience and I have a job and a more complete resume. I really don't know what my chances are, but it wouldn't hurt to apply. Just keeping my options open.

5. My two favorite moments from this weeks' television. )

6. I'm giving up getting food from college's cafeteria for Lent. I make a sacrifice to fulfill my Catholic obligation, plus I save money: win-win-win! I think I'll be able to get through it, since the fact that I blew through most of my gift card within a month and a half solely on food from the cafeteria, taking my own food to school (right now it's just a big bag of baby carrots, since that's the only quick and easy food we have in the house.) I'm also going to try and see if I can extend this "no eating from the cafeteria" thing a few more weeks after Easter, since I'll be done at this college by then. And saving money is really important these days.
pretty_cynical: (WESTWING. white house barbie.)
My English class can seriously go DIAF. Like, we haven't really done anything for the first few weeks (or discussed things that I already knew, given that I went to high school and took four years of English), and then this week, BAM! Research proposal due today, rough draft due next Wednesday, final draft due a week after that. On what, you ask? WHATEVER THE FRAK WE WANT. Which, in someways may seem like a good thing, but when you have to do a research assignment that requires numerous (and varied) sources, it sucks. I planned on doing something television related, but I can't think of anything substantial. I couldn't even come up with a decent sounding research proposal, so I didn't even do it and skipped class. I'm just upset that the professor doesn't even give us any guidance as to where to go with the paper. Seriously, how I am I going to learn how to write a good research paper if the professor doesn't teach me?

And I still have to do my Film paper on Mystic River this weekend. Great.

-

I have lots of TV to catch up on - I chose watching American Idol/taking a shower over Criminal Minds, CSI:NY wasn't really worth it (despite reading a spoiler earlier yesterday afternoon saying there would be something major) and 24 hasn't gotten any better. I still have last weeks House and yesterdays Lost to watch as well. This whole "basic cable with no DVR and being forced to watch most stuff online" really sucks. I wish I had my laptop so I could watch these things in bed.

However, I am working on marathoning season 6 of The West Wing - I watched the first two episodes on TV and the rest (six so far) online, usually one a day, more if I have the time. Although I'm about 3 episodes behind Bravo, so I'm trying to catch up as best I can so I can watch episodes on TV on Fridays since I'm home. I've forgotten how much joy this show brought me, even if it does suck at times.

-

I think I'm going to have to miss The Office and 30 Rock tonight, as much as I don't want to. I'm going to Grand Valley tomorrow morning for a transfer orientation and since it takes three hours to get from my house to there, I have to get up way earlier than usual, so I have to go to bed earlier. Also, it is Mommy's birthday today (the big 5-0!), so we might be doing stuff for that as well. At least I can watch them online, and it'll give my something to look forward to when I get home.

-

The weather yesterday was my favorite kind: rainy and spring-like. Now it's cold again and I miss it.
pretty_cynical: (MISC. coops!)
  1. I ate way too much at the inauguration party on Tuesday. In addition to the popcorn and sub sammich provided to me, I had a chocolate chip cookie and two whole packages of peach rings. This caused me to be super-hyper the rest of the day, so much so that I could barely work on the paper I had to write for Intro to Film. But by the time the balls rolled around on Tuesday night, I was definitely ready to go to sleep, and I was so tired that I almost fell asleep in Film Wednesday morning. I still haven't caught up on sleep; thank God it's the weekend!

  2. Speaking of the balls, the Obamas were absolutely adorable. I loved how genuine their love for each other came across as they were dancing - and that it didn't wear them down with each ball they went to. I didn't really like Michelle's dress; I thought she could do a lot better (although like Kelly Kapoor, she looks really good in white.) However, Jill Biden was A++ in that red dress! And she and Joe were looking adorable dancing together as well. Basically the entire night was wonderful and flail-inducing. I'm really excited about having them as our First and Second families, yo.

  3. I'm seriously considering printing out this photo on nice photo paper and framing it. SERIOUSLY.

  4. My Film professor admitted yesterday that on occasion she likes to watch movies with the commentary. I could definitely relate. True Story: I only watch "The Dundies" with commentary. I've only watched it without the commentary once, and that was when I watched with my cousins. I like all the on-the-set stories the cast&crew tell about filming an entire episode at Chili's.

  5. I thought about my high school during and after the inauguration - we drove by on our way to college that morning, since there only about two miles away from each other. I'm wondering if they got to watch it. My school was all girls and catholic and really conservative, so I don't even know how they reacted to Obama being elected. I remember having Bush's second inauguration on TV in 2005, but we didn't really watch it, just had it as background noise while we were in class. But I think Obama's inauguration is definitely more history-making, so I would assume they did. I'm pretty sure my Government teacher would've made his class watch it the entire hour and half they have class - he's really big into that kind of stuff.

  6. I was really disappointed to read some spoilers for upcoming Jim/Pam moments on The Office that were so blantantly put out there. However, I am excited there is a new episode tonight, and I'm assuming there's going to be some good Jim/Pam stuff, since the Dwight/Andy/Angela storyline is now (thankfully) dead. I am really glad my OTP is coming back to the forefront in these upcoming episodes.

  7. I'm upset that Criminal Minds is repeats for the next two weeks. I want Emily Prentiss' big secret revealed soon so I can find out if my hunch is correct - I almost thought they were going to reveal it in last night's ep, since my theory totally fit in with the case. CSI:NY and Numb3rs have repeats in the next few weeks as well. WTF, CBS?

  8. I haven't watched Lost yet (although I did read a few flist reactions - "CRAZY!" is basically the concensus), but ABC is re-airing it on Saturday night, so I think I'll watch it then. It currently conflicts with Criminal Minds, so I haven't decided how I'm going to watch future episodes yet. I don't know.
pretty_cynical: (WESTWING. baby it's cold outside.)
I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning. I even slept in for almost a half hour before finally getting up and going. It was so nice and warm in there compared to how cold it was outside. However, it did give me a chance to wear my super-warm leggings with tights underneath and my hipster scarf, which were absolutely necessary when walking between buildings on campus. We're having turkey tonight for dinner, but I'm going to have chicken noodle soup because it's just that kind of weather.

second day of second semester classes. )

Tonight's going to be spent with more school-reading (definitely less than last night, which I nearly fell asleep while doing), another 2 hours of American Idol (will save Criminal Minds for tomorrow after classes), and maybe the newest episode of CSI:NY, if I can get Mommy to watch the local 10 PM news upstairs. If not, I'll watch it online during my 3-hour break tomorrow. I'm so excited TV's back for the year!
pretty_cynical: (CRIMINALMINDS. beautifully broken.)
Apparently there was no review session this morning; It was just a tutor available to answer any questions we had, and I was the only one who showed up. So I got up at 7:30 this morning (after falling asleep at midnight) for nothing. Dad was pissed at me because I wanted to come home instead of wait around at the library for someone to show up, and neither Mommy or Dad answered their phones when I tried to call them to say that there wasn't one. So I was stuck at the library for longer than I wanted to be. I'd really wanted to attend, but since it was with a bunch of other math classes, it was going to be a general overview, and I can do that at home. I don't even know what this final is going to be on; I won't find out until Wednesday, and the final's on Thursday. I've got homework from other classes that's due Monday&Tuesday (plus finals and my last Stats test those days), that I need to do that's more important, and I don't want to waste time by spending all day at the library just so I can boost my grade in one class. I NEVER SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED IT.

My English final was super easy. I wish I could say the same for the rest of them, but I know that's not true. I did decide to take my Government final on Thursday, because that evenly splits the tests (2 on both Tuesday&Thursday, instead of 3 on Tuesday and 1 on Thursday.) Then I can use that break on Tuesday as extra study time. Or something.

The only good TV this week (besides House, of course) was CSI:NY, and even then the very end was the best part. The other shows (The Office, Criminal Minds, 30 Rock) were either lacking or very standard fare. I know for a fact I won't be able to contain myself during this hiatus. I WANT IT TO BE JANUARY NOW, PLZ.

Speaking of that excellent episode of House, [livejournal.com profile] fated_addiction wrote me Cuddy/tinybaby!Cuddy fic because I stumped her in one her writing memes. I've never had fic written for me before! It's one of the best fics I've ever read, and I love it so.

I'm making a "songs to study/do homework to" mix instead of typing out my Speech study guide. I might hand-write it instead. I finished another set of Astronomy review questions before my CT scan, so I only have one left, plus a lab project that won't take very long. And then there's Stats homework and subsequent studying for the test on Tuesday. I probably won't study for Astronomy&Stats finals until the day before because I still don't know what they're on. I just want to get this over with so I can relax.
pretty_cynical: (STUDIOSIXTY. hannah harriet.)
I'm back. Sort of. I've still got tons of work to do. A Stats test tomorrow that I haven't really studied for, and my final speech of the semester for Speech class is due next week, and I only just finished getting sources this morning. I promised I wouldn't post until everything is done, but once I'm done with my speech next week, it'll be time to start studying for finals. So this is just a temporary return from hiatus to update. After this is done I'm going right back to work. I really need to do well on this Stats test so I don't fail the course, and this speech is proving to be the most difficult thing I've ever done.

ANYWAY. Thanksgiving went wonderfully. I had fun with my cousins, and was especially excited to see my older cousin who goes to Dallas. He told me stories of all the ridiculous things he's done while there. It made me wish I went to an actual college so I had some stories to tell. I really want to go visit him, but it's difficult to travel there on such a tight schedule. We watched the Lions come one step closer to obtaining a perfect losing record. And the food was wonderful! I don't usually eat a lot on Thanksgiving (I don't eat a lot in general), but I did eat my fare share of the apple&cherry pies we had; they were delicious. I ended up going to bed early because Mommy dragged me to church that morning. Plus, I had a lot of work left to do over the weekend and I wanted to be able to focus.

None of us went shopping on Black Friday. Mommy used to get up early and shop when we were little, but nowadays there's nothing she'd be willing to shop at 5 AM for. And with the economy here so bad and the threat of Dad losing his job hanging over us, there isn't going to be much of a Christmas at our house. I'm making gift lists for myself and the rest of the family anyways. There really isn't a lot that I want besides The Audacity of Hope and the new Sports Night DVDs. I'd really like a laptop, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get one because a) they're expensive, and b) I won't really need one until next fall. But it would be nice to have.

Monica put our Christmas tree up with the help of a friend yesterday, and I'm in the process of making a Christmas mix that I'll post later once I've got it all together. A semi-consolation prize for not getting my [livejournal.com profile] picspammy done on time. We got a lot of snow here last night (though not enough for a snow day, sadly), so it's really starting to feel like Christmas.

CSI:NY was so wonderful last week that I watched it again right after it aired. And I nearly had a heart attack seeing the promos for this weeks' episode of The Office. AND HOUSE! I'M SO EXCITED, GUYS.
pretty_cynical: (60; the best of me)
I was going to post this long rant about the bailout for the auto industry, but I deleted it at the last moment because I'm biased. Not only do I live near Detroit, but Dad works for Ford. So you already know my opinion: I really want this bailout. I don't want to see my state worse than it already is :(

I had mixed feelings about TV this week: CBS sweeps sucked (next week's episode of CSI:NY already looks better than the one this week; I miss JJ; and the only good part of Numb3rs was the end), while The Office was completely adorable. And Steve Martin was frakking GREAT on 30 Rock. So.

Now I've got to go do homework. I don't have a lot - just one section of Stats and an Astronomy paper, but I got the Astronomy assignment about a month ago and just haven't gotten around to it yet. So now I've got to hardcore it. But I end up wasting my weekends, so it's probably not going to get done until right before class on Monday. It's already 7:30 PM on Saturday and I haven't even started Stats, despite the fact that I resolved to get the homework done right away and actually do it instead of copying the answers. I JUST WISH IT WAS TUESDAY ALREADY.

Stats class is, and always will be, my least favorite class. )

BUT. I did get a 95% on my Government Exam that I didn't study for, due to the fact I got 5 out of 6 extra credit questions right, plus 10 bonus points for no reason. (actually, I won't find out why I got those points until class tomorrow, but I can only assume it was because people did so poorly on it.) I was freaking out after class yesterday because I didn't think I did that well. I was pleaseantly surprised.

House was pretty fail last night, but next week is going to be awesome because it's sweeps week. And tonight is CSI:NY's sweeps episode, which I'm pretty excited about, although I silently fear that my iPod is going to die because its name also happens to be named Mac Taylor. Way to incite fear in me, CBS.

Thanskgiving is next week, and I've got so much to do over my five-day break: write an Essay on whether or not Hillary was treated unfairly during the Primaries for Government, begin working on my big Speech (I decided to persuade my classmates to live more "green"; Today sort of inspired me), do some Astronomy review questions and the always-present Stats homework, plus work on my [livejournal.com profile] picspammy project. And then after that's all over, I've got to start thinking about finals, which are in a few weeks. I'm going to go crazy.

This Jim/Pam deleted scene is adorable, but I'm sure you already knew that.

  1. The only good part about SNL last night was Justin Timberlake, and he wasn't even the host or musical guest. I'm sad that he won't be the host next week - his plans for the show sounded awesome. It probably would've made up for the shittness that was this week. Also, I'm already liking the new girl Abby Elliot, even if she wasn't in the show at all. I like redheads with low-key names :)

  2. IT'S NOT EVEN THANKSGIVING YET AND THERE'S ALREADY LOTS OF SNOW ON THE GROUND. WTF.

  3. I have a new layout ([livejournal.com profile] pretty_cynical); it's exactly the same as my previous one except with a new header (one of my new favorite scenes from The Office) and a blue color scheme. It's very winter-y.

  4. The Obama White House looks like it's going to be Clinton White House 2.0. (And if Obama offers John McCain a cabinet postition, I seriously might cry. The West Wing having correctly predicted the outcome of the election was weird, but predicting the administration? Just plain creepy.)

  5. Numb3rs lacked awesome this week, but next week is the sweeps episode, so I'm sure it's going to be good.

  6. I've been watching football on CBS all day (Dad prefers CBS commentators to the ones on FOX), and I keep seeing CSI:NY that make me laugh. This week is going to be an awesome TV week.

  7. I get to skip Statistics tomorrow because I have a doctors appointment! It should give me more time to study for the test I have on Tuesday, because I haven't even looked at the study sheet the professor gave us. And I have extra time to do homework, which is nice because I went to a party with my parents & our friends from camp last night, and I just laid around and watched football earlier today and only finished one section of homework.

  8. "Single Ladies" is a very catchy song.

Astronomy exam went fine; I know I got a few of the multiple choice questions wrong, but I know for a fact I got the two diagrams right. So I'm anxious to find out what I got and am hoping it's better than the first one. I didn't study for Government AT ALL because instead I took a five-hour nap, but I think I did okay, and I'm pretty sure I got all the extra credit questions right, so that should help boost my grade a bit. ALTHOUGH THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT I'M ALL DONE WITH THIS WEEK OF STRESS AND NOW I AM FREEEEEEEEEEE.

Wednesday Night TV was wonderful. The entire night I was :DDDDD. And I'm laughing over the promos for next week; it must be sweeps if they're trying to pull off that ridiculousness.

A few quick things about The Office. )

Today is going to be one of those relaxing days; I'm putting off homework (3 sections of Stats and some Astronomy review questions) until the actual weekend. I had Chocolate Fudge Poptarts for breakfast and Dad's making cheeseburgers for lunch. I'm required to go for a walk today (sooner rather than later, as it's going to raining soon) and then I'm going to curl up and watch the last few episodes Prison Break. I'm slightly behind because I've chosen to watch Jon & Kate plus 8 instead, and I want to be ready for some big things that are supposedly coming in the next few weeks. And I'm not allowing myself to read spoilers until I'm all caught up.
