pretty_cynical: (WESTWING. baby it's cold outside.)

I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning. I even slept in for almost a half hour before finally getting up and going. It was so nice and warm in there compared to how cold it was outside. However, it did give me a chance to wear my super-warm leggings with tights underneath and my hipster scarf, which were absolutely necessary when walking between buildings on campus. We're having turkey tonight for dinner, but I'm going to have chicken noodle soup because it's just that kind of weather.

My Tuesdays&Thursdays are really weirdly scheduled. I have class from 8:30 until 10 and then don't have another one until 1 PM, which goes until 2:30. So I have this nearly 3 hour break where I can do anything I want. Yesterday I spent the majority of it listening to Hilary Clinton's confirmation hearings. Theoretically, I could take another class within that time, but there's not another class that's offered this semester that I really want to take. Plus I'm already taking 16 credits, and you have to get special permission from the college if you want to take more than 18. But I digress.

Human Relations: This class seems like a huge waste of my time. The professor is relatively young (I think she mentioned she just got her Master's, wasn't really paying attention) and has a very annoying voice - almost a lisp. The only things we did yesterday were review the syllabus (that took about 20 minutes) and this thing where we watched a clip from Office Space and discussed how we would react in the same situation. Only a few people actually contributed, so we were out of there by 9 AM. WHAT A WASTE. The homework seems really easy as well. I feel like I could skip this class most of the time and still do okay, although I'd still have to get up early to come here. It's a huge joke, basically.

Contemporary American History: I was really excited about this class because I'm a huge American history buff, and the last hundred years or so (the century this course covers) is most definitely my favorite. Thankfully, it lived up to my expectations. The professor's an older man but has this great sense of humor - he did his best Carl Levin impression while putting on his glasses and reading off attendance. I felt super-smart when he asked the class who Joe McCarthy was and what he's know for in American History and I was the only one who answered. We have the option of doing a term paper or book review on anything related to contemporary American history to boost our grade, and I already have a few ideas that I'm mulling over but he's already approved of them. The only thing that worries me is that he lectures without having a Powerpoint presentation, which I've never had before, but I know I'm not that great of an auditory learner. I think I'm going to have to convince Mommy that I need a smaller (read: portable) tape recorder, because the one I have is definitely not.

Tonight's going to be spent with more school-reading (definitely less than last night, which I nearly fell asleep while doing), another 2 hours of American Idol (will save Criminal Minds for tomorrow after classes), and maybe the newest episode of CSI:NY, if I can get Mommy to watch the local 10 PM news upstairs. If not, I'll watch it online during my 3-hour break tomorrow. I'm so excited TV's back for the year!
