I've only been home from the hospital for a week, and already I'm falling back into the old habit of sporadic eljay posting. Lack of energy, I guess. The doctors still don't know what's wrong with me - I had a post-hospitalization follow-up appointment on Wednesday, and since things still weren't back to normal, they ordered a study where I wear an oxygen saturation monitor while I sleep, without being on oxygen. That didn't yield anything, so the next step is to re-do the lung function test (if you recall, I passed out during it the first time around), which is our best hope at getting this whole issue resolved. But other than that, I'm feeling about as well as I should be at this point, which is awesome.

I was totally exhausted from the lack of sleep I got Wednesday night (I couldn't sleep in fear that my O2 sats would drop to 89%, the machine would alarm and jolt me awake) that I woke up in a fit yesterday morning around 9, pissed that I had missed the Emmy nominations. I'VE WATCHED IT EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Usually if I think I might wake up late that morning I'll tape it, but that wasn't an option this year because we no longer have a DVR. So I had to go to the Emmy website to look them up, and let me tell you, it was a painstaking effort - the televised announcement just lists the major categories that people actually care about, but the website lists EVERY SINGLE CATEGORY - and instead of listing them by importance (Outstanding Comedy/Drama, Outstanding Actors/Actress, etc), they're listed in alphabetical order, meaning I had to scroll through the entire list to make sure I got all the important categories. So here are some brief thoughts on the nominees:
  1. I'm beyond thrilled that Neil Patrick Harris is hosting this year - although anyone seems like an improvement from last year. He did a great job hosting the Tonys earlier this year - and so now I'm intrigued as to what he'll do for his opening monologue. Plus, with Jeremy Piven out of the running for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, I do think NPH is on track to win it - he's done a beyond phenomenal job as Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother this season.

  2. It could FINALLY be Steve Carell's year to win Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series - Alec Baldwin seems to have lost his thunder and doesn't have a submission that could seal the deal for him the way he did last year, and Season 5 Michael Scott has become less creepy than in previous seasons. I do think it's nice that Jim Parsons is finally getting some recognition for his portrayal of Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory - it's been a totally underrated performance for too long.

  3. I really think Mad Men could win Outstanding Drama Series again - or at least be in a really close race with Lost. Out of all the nominees in that category, I've only seen Mad Men, Lost and House - but House was too lackluster this season to be given real consideration. And if Mad Men takes the Emmy again, Lost shouldn't fret: Emmy voters are notorious for giving awards to shows that are ending.

  4. Outstanding Comedy Series could be a toss-up this year between The Office and 30 Rock - neither show seemed to really say "Emmy-worthy" this season. (ALSO, WHAT EMMY MEMBER DECIDED TO GIVE FAMILY GUY AN OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES NOMINATION. SERIOUSLY? THAT SHOW EMBODIES ALL THAT IS WRONG WITH TELEVISON. IF ANY ANIMATED SERIES IS GETTING THAT BIG OF A NOMINATION, IT WOULD BE THE SIMPSONS, OBVIOUSLY.)

  5. The only award I think is an absolute lock even two months before the actual awards ceremony is Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series - Tina Fey as Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. I MEAN, COME ON. Tina barely had to make up anything in order to play her - Palin was a walking SNL sketch herself. If Tina doesn't win for playing Liz Lemon on 30 Rock (which I doubt will happen), I'd want that award for her, because she obviously deserves it.
