I think I'm suffering through a migraine - I've never had one before, despite the fact that I'm relatively frequent sufferer of headaches, and damn, IT IS PAINFUL. Like, I couldn't even find a comfortable sleeping position because of it; the right side of my head hurts, and I usually sleep on my left side but couldn't due to the intense pain. I'm trying to take it as easy as I possibly can, and acetaminophen seems to be helping. Although the fact that it's coming in tandem with PMS isn't a lot of fun. So.

I realized I haven't talked about American Idol in awhile, and since a) the finale is tonight, and b) this is probably the last season I'll actually watch, due to the fact that I'll be busy with college things and the quality of the show has really declined in recent years (I often looked back with fond memories of Season 5 while watching this season, as it was by far the best season of American Idol - the seasons that followed just pale in comparison). Plus, despite the fact that I had a terrible migriane and could hardly tolerate the music at some points, I do have a few quick thoughts:
  • I was surprised that Kris didn't do "Heartless" for his favorite performance over the entire season, as it was an obvious hit with the judges, audience and viewers - maybe he thought it was a little repetitive to do the same song two weeks in a row? (Although Katharine McPhee did "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for the finale a week after performing it on the show, and her version of the song is probably one of the best American Idol performances to date - Simon made an excellent choice in picking that song for her.) I didn't object to him re-doing "Ain't No Sunshine", as I really like his version of it, but I was hoping that he would do the entire song solely with piano and not add in other instruments like he did the first time around. And I'm wary of buying the studio version of iTunes because I fear it will be the same version as the one I already have.

  • I winced/cried during Adam's performance of "Change Is Gonna Come". I ABSOLUTELY HATED IT. He turned a beautiful song into an epic screamfest. I personally believe that the song should be done acoustically with a piano or a capella (a la the Gavin DeGraw version I have and absolutely love - Kris would've done that incredibly well, I think), or not even attempted. I really liked Kris' version of "What's Going On" (BOX DRUMS, WOOT!), and disagreed with the judges that it didn't fit in with the overall feel of the night - I found it absolutely refreshing that he took the risk of stripping it down when finale performances are typically big and spectacular. I think the audience really enjoyed as well.

  • The coronation song, "No Boundaries"? ABSOLUTELY SUCKS. Not only has Kara morphed into the female version of Randy over the season (Seriously, she's literally agreeing with everything he says), she appears to be a terrible songwriter as well. I'm dreading hearing it played constantly on the radio over the next few months, regardless of who wins - IT'S THAT BAD.

  • I'm dreading the finale tonight; when Ryan announced that they may run "a little long" last night, I let out the biggest of groans - not only because I don't think American Idol has earned the right to run long (that honor is only bestowed on Academy Awards telecasts and Superbowls, in my opinion), but because I only plan on tuning into the last five minutes or so to find out who won (I will be watching sporadically earlier in the show for the requisite group medleys, my favorite thing about American Idol finales), and if I have to wait an extra 15-20 minutes due to some earlier prattling, I'M GOING TO BREAK SOMETHING.

  • I voted a few times for Kris last night; judging by how many busy signals I got last night, I imagine it's going to come down to the wire. I really wouldn't be surprised if Adam ends up winning, as the judges are literally laying praise on him (and not-so-subtly putting down Kris in the process), but if Kris somehow pulls it off I'll be happy. Like I said before, apathy towards this show is setting in - I could honestly care less about who wins.

Also, Glee! Where has this show been all my life, especially during my three years of choir&drama in high school? Seriously, it is that wonderful - so wonderful, in fact, that it led me to sing a medley of songs from my high school choir days as I was taking my shower last night. I have the slightest of crushes on Will, and I'm a little weirded out that the cheer coach is played by the same actress that plays Reid's schizophrenic mother on Criminal Minds, haha. And I'm obsessed with the music! So glad it's been put up on iTunes - and if they were to continue doing so (like that a capella version of "Gold Digger" from the promo? I WANTS IT), THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. The only thing that worries me about this show (and it seems to be a pretty common worry, from what I'm hearing) that it's on FOX, so a) Glee could be canceled without much notice, despite critical acclaim; and/or b) it could do a lot of unpredictable time-slot switching (as of now, it's set to air on Wednesdays from 9-10PM - up against Criminal Minds.) So I guess we'll just see how things go, but I definitely plan to watch!
