pretty_cynical: (STUDIOSIXTY. spunk.)
I haven't been feeling well the past few days: headache, stomach bug, general grogginess. I spent most of today laid up in bed watching season 4 of 30 Rock, followed by church, which sucked. Since I don't think whatever I've got will miraculously go away in the next two hours, it's going to be super awesome to ring in the New Year feeling like absolute shit. In a way I'm actually glad we're not doing anything tonight, because I would just be too cranky to actually enjoy anything. Instead, I will be laying on the couch watching Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve all alone and try not to fall asleep.

Fandom Year in Review )

And my contribution to the "what 2010 sounded like" meme: oh, let it be., a mix of songs i listened to throughout 2010.
pretty_cynical: (STUDIOSIXTY. hannah harriet.)
This meme in no way makes up for the fact that I haven't done a real-life update in quite some time. )

Other things I need to post about besides real life things: the past three episodes of House and general thoughts on this season of Mad Men - which, sadly, is almost over. Where did the time go, you guys?
pretty_cynical: (MISC. work.)
So I leave for Grand Valley on Wednesday. As in three days from now. I am really not ready to move on to this next phase of my life, despite the fact that a) I FINALLY have on-campus housing after weeks and weeks of impatiently waiting (I'll be living in an on-campus apartment with three other girls, two of them are also transfer students); and b) I have almost everything I need to make this transition, including my own laptop (!!!!!!!). I've been totally psyched out to go there for nearly a year, but now that it's so close to actually happening I'm freaking out. I mean, this will be the first time I've ever lived on my own, away from my family, for an extended period of time. So it's basically a totally new experience for me, and I hope it goes as well as I think it will.

But I have so much to do in those final three days. I did a massive load of laundry comprised of some of the clothes I'm taking with me (also partly because I had no clean clothes left at that point), and today I gathered up all the books/magazines/DVDs I want to take. Tomorrow I need to wash my sheets and towels for the dorm, and attempt to start packing things up. Tuesday Mommy and I are doing some last-minute shopping (mostly for food, plus a couple of last-minute things we couldn't get during our shopping excursion on Friday), and I'll finish packing. Then on Wednesday I leave, and begin the next phase of my life at Grand Valley.

I haven't really been doing anything else the past few weeks besides stress over college things. I finally did finish Richard Wolffe's Renegade, which is an absolute relief. I mean, I love Richard Wolffe, but you'd think a guy who has a great sense of humor and found it hilarious that he was jokingly referred to as a "Nazi" on Saturday Night Live would be able to write a book that was at least a bit more engaging; apparently that is not the case. This was an historic election, and if you have the honor of writing the first book about the new president, wouldn't you at least want to make it interesting? I think it just came down to the fact that Richard Wolffe no longer appears on Countdown with Keith Olbermann as the cause of my dread, at least in regards to continuing with it. But I'm really done with it, and the reward to myself was an epic series re-watch of The West Wing. I just finished the first disc of the first season, and OH GOSH, THIS SHOW ♥

I still have yet to talk about Mad Men's s3 premiere - will do that sometime tomorrow, plus spoilers for The Office; I will say right now that I have seen those spoilery set pics, and I flailed and squeed right along with the rest of my flist. And keep suggesting Top 5's for me! I've been so busy over the past few weeks that I haven't really had time to think about them, but I will be doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING this weekend, so I can work on them then. I need something to keep me from overdosing on The West Wing.
pretty_cynical: (OFFICE. golden girl.)
I have big things to talk about (College things, Mad Men, and spoilers for The Office ZOMG), but I'm absolutely exhausted from watching gymnastics all day and I've got relatives coming over later tonight, so those updates will have to wait. In the meantime, I have a meme for you to do, courtesy of various members of my flist:

Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post (possibly). Also, maybe with pictures.

I know I haven't updated in four days, and I planned to do a big damn update post today, but I'm being lazy, so it'll probably come sometime tomorrow. Until then, enjoy this iTunes meme from the flist:

If you would like any of the songs mentioned, please let me know and I'll upload them for you. )
pretty_cynical: (SPORTSNIGHT. major lulz.)
100 questions meme, stolen from a few friends on Facebook. )

Downloaded more music from Death Cab For Cutie, and there's a new Numb3rs on tonight. Those two events are unrelated but worth mentioning. I'M GOING INSANE FROM MARATHONING SPORTS NIGHT EARLIER, CAN YOU TELL?
pretty_cynical: (Default)
icon meme, or proof that Maureen tries to diversify her userpics as much as possible. )

Sports Night DVDs finally arrived today (!!!), so a marathon is imminent. ALSO: BLOOPER REEL.

My life, in pictures. )

Instead of working on Stats computer problems between classes (like I planned), I spent a good amount of time trying to find the shirt that Eli Manning wears in this video, but couldn't find it; I doubt it's available to the general public. New York flisters, help me out? This would be an awesome Christmas present. (AND FOR THE RECORD, I AM TOTALLY WILLING TO HAVE ELI HELP ME GET HEALTHY. OR PEYTON. EVEN THOUGH I'VE BEEN TOLD HE'S A BAD INFLUENCE ON KIDS. I DON'T CARE.)

Dear Thursday, please come sooner.
pretty_cynical: (NUMB3RS. pretty.)
I really liked Numb3rs a lot this week. Liz Warner continues to have the best hair on TV. (Also, she FINALLY got main billing, which means they're one step closer to bringing her back permanently. THAT'S ALL I'VE EVER WANTED FROM THIS SHOW.)

Stolen from a few people on my flist:

Everyone has things they blog about regularly. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, favorite type of underwear, first crushes, pet peeves, favorite songs to dance around to, irrational dislikes, etc.

Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

Now I've got to go do some Stats homework. I haven't really started studying for finals because they're not for two weeks and none of my professors have given me study guides or anything. Which I really like, but I just want to get them over with. So.
pretty_cynical: (HOUSE. pity and fear.)
Thanks to House, I will have "Lime in the Coconut" stuck in my head ALL FRAKKING DAY tomorrow - just what I need. Also, Sean Connery impression! And the smallest of references to UMich! That is all.

a meme from tunaeverynight )

I'm going to go upload Christmas music to my iPod and then look over the paper I'm taking my speech from. That is, if I don't fall asleep first. It's been a long day and I'm exhausted.
pretty_cynical: (60; the best of me)
I was going to post this long rant about the bailout for the auto industry, but I deleted it at the last moment because I'm biased. Not only do I live near Detroit, but Dad works for Ford. So you already know my opinion: I really want this bailout. I don't want to see my state worse than it already is :(

I had mixed feelings about TV this week: CBS sweeps sucked (next week's episode of CSI:NY already looks better than the one this week; I miss JJ; and the only good part of Numb3rs was the end), while The Office was completely adorable. And Steve Martin was frakking GREAT on 30 Rock. So.

a random meme from tunaeverynight. )

Now I've got to go do homework. I don't have a lot - just one section of Stats and an Astronomy paper, but I got the Astronomy assignment about a month ago and just haven't gotten around to it yet. So now I've got to hardcore it. But I end up wasting my weekends, so it's probably not going to get done until right before class on Monday. It's already 7:30 PM on Saturday and I haven't even started Stats, despite the fact that I resolved to get the homework done right away and actually do it instead of copying the answers. I JUST WISH IT WAS TUESDAY ALREADY.
pretty_cynical: (o; please don't tell karen)
Monica came home from camp last night, which means chaos at the house and SUMMER'S OVER :(((

Honesty Meme. )

Dear Yahoo!, why must you spoil me for the Olympics when I'm going to watch them later today and I want to be surprised by the results? I was really hoping you were wrong and Shawn actually got the Gold last night instead of the Silver. I DON'T LIKE IT WHEN I'VE ALREADY SEEN THE RESULTS BUT BECAUSE NBC HAS TO BE STUPID AND SHOW THEM IN PRIMETIME, MY HOPES FOR USA GOING 1&2 ARE DASHED.
pretty_cynical: (studiosixty / network president)
I got out of class 10 minutes early, because the instructor finished teaching what needed to be taught. If this had happened in HS (and it frequently did, believe me), the teacher would've been all, "I'm done teaching, feel free to start your homework, keep socializing to a minimum!" So College > High School, yes?

Also, who knew that the schedule for homework was so confusing? I missed yesterday, and now have to do two days worth of homework (because I only did one assignment last night instead of two) this weekend, plus study/review for my first test, which is Tuesday. UGH.

11Q meme. )

Now off to GET MY LOST ON, take a nap, and do my homework. But not necessarily in that order.
pretty_cynical: (newamsterdam / subway)
Please pardon my anger-induced incoherency.

New Amsterdam, or why Maureen should never, ever get that obsessed over a show. )

Want to do this meme to make me feel better?
pretty_cynical: (random / superobama)
Why today is getting better and better:

- I'm one step closer to being a registered voter!
- I sent out a lunch order to Jimmy John's during Office Assistant today, and it was super successful.
- I may take some of my college classes during the summer, since I'll be around.
- The weather is nice.
- New Amsterdam season finale tonight!
- A meme, from [ profile] delgaserasca:

Comment with a subject for a top 5 (ships, songs, moments, scenes, foods, etc, etc.) that you would like to see me answer. Feel free to ask for more than one.

pretty_cynical: (numb3rs / working girl)
So. I'm exhausted from play rehearsals, falling in love with New Amsterdam, and freaking out over the fact that I've got a HUGE Spanish project due on Monday that I haven't even started and won't have any time to do this weekend, because of the play. THIS WEEKEND IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME, GUYS. /sarcasm

Anyway, let's do this, because everyone else is doing it:

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

pretty_cynical: (office / paper doll)
A meme, stolen from [ profile] pieces_of. (Happy Birthday!)

Hand write:

1) Your handle/name/username.
2) Left or right handed?
3) Favorite letters to write.
4) Least favorite characters to write.
5) Write "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
6) Tag 5 people.

On a related note, I only write in black pen, and the pen has to a have a cap or one of those click things. Blue just seems very odd to me, and there have been too many times where uncapped pens have ruined my pencil bags. And I'm always on the lookout for left-handed famous people (or basically anyone who is left-handed, because they're so rare). Recent discoveries: Rashida Jones, Barack Obama, and my school's principal. If you know of any others, please let me know!

I have a Peyton episode of CSI:NY waiting for me on the DVR, and Amy Adams is hosting Saturday Night Live tonight. YAY.
pretty_cynical: (a: kw / glamourous)
Stolen from nearly everyone.

Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post a line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from. (NO CHEATING! And that includes using Google.)
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.

feel funky, feel good. )

Happy (belated) birthday, [ profile] whenidream!

Ever since I came back from Omaha, I've been constantly tired. I've had to take a nap during the afternoon every day this week, and although I enjoy it, I'm still tired. Maybe it has something to do with the fact I've never gone to bed before 11 and had to wake up at 7 for Vacation Bible School? I think so.

Going to see Evan Almighty tonight with Mommy, Monica, and all of the middle schoolers from Vacation Bible School (about 110 of them.) I'm totally meh about the movie, but going will be fun, because it'll give me something to do tonight. Plus, free popcorn&candy!

Two memes, both taken from [ profile] smut_queen. Do them, plz?

Comment to this post with a pairing from one of the fandoms that we share. It can be a general pairing or something unconventional. Het or slash. It's doesn't matter. I will respond with at least 100 words discussing my opinions, feelings, and thoughts on that particular pairing.

Comment to this post with an offer to write in any fandom that you and I have in common. I will answer with a prompt. Then, you will write me comment-fic, snippets, or whatever comes to mind. Now go post this in your own journal and demand fic of your very own! Make your flist work! You had a long week and you DESERVE it, dammit!
